Description

In developing this driver, we learned that professional golfers, who make their living from golf, have a unique passion, attention to detail, and demands for the tools they use.

Patrick Reed, a Grindworks teammate, is known for not having any club contracts. The irons, wedges, and putters that Patrick currently uses were all co-developed with him and Grindworks. Now, I have no club contract with Grindworks.

This spring, Patrick Reed's office contacted us with a request to have Grindworks make a driver for him, as the driver from American golfer P??, with whom Patrick has his first and only driver contract, is just not very interesting.

From then on, the Graworks development team and Patrick were in constant communication about the performance requirements and the details of each driver's specifications, ignoring morning, noon and night during the limited time between professional tournaments.

In terms of specifications, the development team considered the following to be the most important:

Center of gravity angle: When the shaft of the driver is suspended in the air at any two points, the angle of the face pointing upwards is called the center of gravity. The larger the angle, the better the ball will catch, but pros don't like a club that catches the ball too easily.

Depth of center of gravity: The distance from the center of gravity of the sole to the face . It affects the amount of spin and the height of the ball's trajectory. Patrick's preference is 2300-2350 RPM.

Moment of inertia : Affects the movement of the head during the swing. If it is large, the tolerance for mistakes increases, but the controllability becomes unstable. The average is 4000g cm2.

Face angle: Advanced players and professionals tend to prefer a slightly negative angle. Patrick prefers an angle between 0 and -0.5.

Lie angle: The larger the angle, the easier it is to catch the ball, but it tends to go left. The smaller the angle, the more it tends to go right. Patrick wanted a 59 degree lie .

There are many other detailed specifications, but the above specs do have some numerical values that serve as a guideline. However, for professionals, they only judge whether the numerical values are good or not after trying them out. Sensitivity takes priority.

Since then, the prototype driver has been crossing the road from the factory to Patrick's office in Texas more than a dozen times, and is now complete. I am deeply grateful to the Groundworks development team for the great learning I have received from their sensibility.

We wanted to deliver this perfectly finished driver to everyone, so we started selling it in mid-November.
